Yeehaw my friends,
It’s been about two weeks since my last email … and boy-o-boy has web3 been heating up.
We’ve seen everything from the Golden State Warriors drop an epic batch of NFTs, to the Oakland A’s accepting DOGE coin, and even Ebay’s CEO saying they’re looking into tapping into the NFT market place.
Today, I want to share a few of the web3 communities that I’m participating in. As you all know, after 12 years I left my agency job to start Parachute, which I’m building to be a web3 tech platform for brands and agencies. My first client is the Dallas Cowboys. I’m sharing this as it ties into how I think about the web3 communities I’m participating in.
SEED CLUB
First up is Seed Club. I came across Seed Club when I began researching social tokens last year. This community is a start-up incubator for social token projects. They run cohorts to help communities launch tokens. In December, I decided to apply for their second cohort and was accepted into the tribe.
Over the course of six weeks, we were introduced to pretty much every thought leader across the social token landscape. The learning curve was insane, and a ton of fun. On every Zoom call we would have people from several countries and timezones, all sharing experiences and lessons they’ve learned in the social token space.
Seed Club helped me refine the community idea that I had brought to them, which is a community for advertising professionals and brand marketers at startups and fortune 1000 brands. The community is called JUMP.
JUMP
The learning curve for web3 is quite steep. It seems even more drastic than the learning curve from traditional marketing to digital marketing.
Since my professional background is centered around agency life, I thought it was time for our industry to come together and begin experimenting with web3.
JUMP will be launching very soon—if you want to learn more before we go live, you can sign up at joinjump.community.
Tokens help align communities in ways we’ve never seen possible. Imagine if a dozen people in every major advertising agency and brand held $JUMP tokens? What could a community like this accomplish?
FOREFRONT
Next up is Forefront.
It makes a ton of sense that a media outlet and marketplace would emerge for social tokens. Forefront.news is shaping up to be just that. I highly recommend reading FF’s 2020 social token year in review.
Given my focus on social tokens, it’s a no brainer for me to participate in this community and project.
FF’s token launch was fascinating. If you held tokens from certain communities, then you were able to claim $FF tokens. I was holding $JAMM and was eligible to claim about 250 $FF tokens.
FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS
This was one of the first social token communities to launch and really paved the way for what is possible. I would characterize it as a group of curious individuals across the arts, music, business, technology and crypto worlds. It ranges from SpaceX engineers to Grammy award winning musicians, to web3 degens.
The community’s key value proposition is that it’s a social network that has value because of the content and ideas the users of FWB create and share. You must hold 60 $FWB tokens as well as apply to be a member of the community.
SQUIGGLE DAO
The final community that I’m participating in is the Squiggle DAO. It’s a generative art collective that aims to support artists as well as to build the world’s largest generative art collection.
I joined this community for two reasons: 1) for me it’s this really strange project at the center of art, technology, and community, 2) Squiggles are so damn cute.
Those who own at least one Squiggle were eligible for the $SQUIG token airdrop if you connected your wallet and joined the Squiggle DAO Discord.
I’m looking forward to potentially helping build the world’s largest generative art collection. My brain has a really hard time understanding what the implications of that even mean but it sounds like a ton of fun.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
The future of your digital and real world experience will be largely dictated by your blockchain footprint. And by that I mean, the NFTs and social tokens you hold. I will explore this more in further posts—in the interim, just noodle on that idea.
As I look to build Parachute, and add more clients beyond the Dallas Cowboys, the communities above represent my first steps towards creating my footprint on the blockchain.
That’s all for today. Hope you’re having a good week. Talk to you again soon.
Jeff
